It is a jungle out there, with a lot of competition and you can become quickly overwhelmed. You are constantly receiving downloads and offers, left, right and center, from other internet marketers.

How many email offers do you receive each day? Do you even know these people who are pushing their latest PLR piece of trash? Everything is a distraction from what you should be doing.

They all claim that if you read “this” or buy “that”, you will finally succeed.

I have been guilty of subscribing to “everything” and spending a lot of money on products and programs that didn’t provide that “magic formula”.

So what should you do to prevent or stop this happening to you?

To overcome this, I found I needed to take a deep breath, step back and use my best judgement. What will work for someone else may not work for you or me.

Here are some tips that I would like to share with you, this is how I started to sort through the “mess”:

Only subscribe to those lists that are beneficial to your style of doing things.

Get rid of the rest.

Nothing is worse than an over crowded email inbox that takes you hours to get through each day, when you could be doing something more productive.

Set aside specific times each day for tasks such as reading your email messages and remember, opening emails adds nothing to your bottom line!

Stop spending what money you have on every gimmick that comes your way.

There is NO magic plug-in software that will do all the work for you, while you rake in the riches.

Like everything in life, in order to succeed you need to put in the effort and work to reach success.

After awhile, you will soon be able to glean what works for you.

There are  many worthwhile, helpful programs and softwares out there, free and paid, you just need to do little  research to find what suits  your personal style.

If you have bought a product and after reading it and watching the videos use your common sense and ask yourself if it will work or not. If you are sure that it will work then follow the instructions and do this and absolutely nothing else until you get a result.

If it works, great, scale it up and out source.
If it doesn’t then you still have useful data and skills for the future.
But, more importantly, you will have worked in a focused way towards creating a real business.

Don’t try to get involved with everything at once.

I was very guilty of doing this.

For example, I discovered pre-launches. I had some small success with one product which led me to signing up as a JV to everything that came along. I spread myself too thin and did not succeed with any of them.

It doesn’t make for a happy list when they are constantly bombarded with new offers.

You need to be selective with what you promote.

Ideally, concentrate on one (no more than two) promotions at one time.

Get to know your list.

Find out what interests them the most and where they are having difficulties.

Most important of all, KNOW what you are promoting …would you see the value in it if it was recommended to you?

Prioritize and organize you life.

I found, for me personally, it is not much fun coping with a neglected wife and children.

The internet and online marketing change every day,  new techniques and methods emerge on a weekly basis. There is always something that looks really good and promises the world,  I know that you have seen the ads for these products.

However basic skills are needed time and time again,  no matter what.

Find one thing that works and stick to it.

Jack of all trades is a master of none.

So how does this work in practice.

The cost of adwords or cpc is a combination of  factors the first one is the popularity of the keyword phrase. Certain phrases cost more than others and advertisers can pay large amounts of money for a click. Many keywords in the loans and insurance market can cost over $10 a click.

The next factor is click through rate or CTR, this is the percentage of searchers who see the ad and click through to the site. The higher the CTR the lower the cost (CPC),  Google rewards those  ads that are clicked on more often for obvious reasons.

Then there is quality score-this is a score which reflects how Google sees your landing page. What this means is the more relevant the page is in relation to the search term the  higher the quality score will be.  The higher the quality score the lower the CPC will be.

The thinking behind this is that if  Google only serves up ads that direct the searcher to a highly targeted and relevant web page then the searchers experience will be in line with their expectations. If a person is searching for “computer viruses” then information about “computer viruses” should be immediately apparent when they arrive at your site.

This is what Google is aiming to deliver and the more you comply with this framework the more Google will reward you with lower cost per click and higher positioning on the search page.

Many of you will  realize that the more relevant your ad and landing page are, the more traffic you will get, the better your CTR will be, the lower your CPC will be. These events will lead to better positioning on the search page and more hopefully more clicks.

Just as short post today about checking the availability of your selected domain name from a large list of keywords.

Sometimes I look back at my time online and in particular at the areas that when I first started gave me the most problems. These are issues that almost drove me insane when I first started out but now are considered so easy that I can almost do them without thinking. This of course applies to any endeavour in life but when your first starting out in Internet marketing these often technical skills bring your progress to a complete standstill.

I want to let you know up front that this is not a technique that I discovered or invented myself nor is it anyway a “secret,”  but I distinctly remember watching a keyword tool video when I first started out online and being totally surprised that this technique was even possible.  Bearing in mind that the time I was searching for individual domain names manually it was responsible for saving me massive amounts of time and frustration.

It can be very boring and frustrating trying to check the availability of a particular keyword from a long list of words that you have found using a keyword tool. There are some software programs available which will automatically check the keywords domain availability but they can be expensive when you’re just starting  your new online business.

Often there are some gems available but they are difficult to find manually and these can be easily missed. Also it is easy to assume that the domain name for a particular keyword is already taken based on your own perceptions even though it may be available. This happens more often than you would think, I often find myself  amazed that a particular domain name is still available.

Today’s video explains how to search for a large list of keywords using a free keyword tool that I’m sure that you use on a regular basis and are quite familiar with. You will then take a list of keywords from the keyword tool and export them a domain registrar in order to check their availability. Even though the video lasts five minutes, once you have performed this simple procedure a couple of times it should not take you any more than one minute to confirm whether or not your desired domain name is available.

PPC marketing stands for pay per click this means that when a searcher clicks on your ad you will pay a fixed amount to the search engine advertising platform that you are advertising on. There are many networks large and small that will allow you to advertise using this format. For the sake of clarity we will confine our discussion at this point to the Google PPC platform which is called adwords.

Basically adwords revolves around keywords. You write a small four line advertisement which contains the keyword that you need to trigger your ad.  Your ad will appear at the top of the organic results for the keyword search performed by the searcher. In other words your ad will only show if your keyword matches the keyword entered by the searcher.  The visitor may see your ad but you will only be charged if they actually click on it.

When you set up your advertising campaign in adwords you will bid on the keywords that you want to use. The price of these keywords varies according to popularity, this popularity is usually directly proportional to the amount of money that the advertiser can potentially earn from being successful with that keyword. For instance, certain industries such as loans, insurance, mortgages and healthcare will command a higher bid price than underwater basket weaving.

When the searcher clicks on your ad they will be taken to a website of your choice, this could be directly to a merchant’s site that you are connected with as an affiliate or more commonly to an intermediate site or landing page that you are using to either pre-sell the prospect, collect their information or merely comply with Google’s rules.

Whether you are sending the prospect directly to the merchant or to a landing page, the contents of that page must be relevant to the search and more importantly the keywords used in your ad.  Google wants the experience for the searcher to be congruent with their expectations,  in other words if you ad is about “used black guitars” then the page that the searcher lands on must also be about “used black guitars.”

This is important for two reasons firstly if the visitor doesn’t immediately see what they were expecting they will leave the site without buying or clicking through to the merchant. This gives Google a bad name and not only do you have to to pay for the click, you didn’t make any money. When this happens Google will penalize the advertiser by reducing their quality score, this in turn raises the cost of each click for the keyword being bid on.

Basically despite what a lot of people think Google it is just trying to deliver the best experience for people searching and in return giving cheaper keywords to those advertisers who deliver this good experience and penalizing those who don’t.

So make sure that  you keep the end user in mind when advertising with PPC using Google adwords. If you keep the searcher  happy you will probably keep Google happy.  If you follow these guidelines then how to do PPC marketing for the beginner won’t be a costly experience.

Look out for information about other networks who accept PPC advertising.

Search engine optimization is the manipulation of various website metrics in order to score more points with the search engines such as Google Yahoo and Bing.  Optimizing your on page factors  and artificially building back links offsite can hardly be classed as organic or natural, but nevertheless this is the excepted way of doing things.

There is also the feeling in many circles that the organic SEO method is free.  Despite the fact that it doesn’t cost any money, except for your domain and hosting,  to build a website in this manner and optimize for search engines it  does not mean that it is free.  On the contrary building websites in this manner, writing articles and content, and making your site interesting for the visitor takes both a considerable amount of time and some degree of knowledge on the part of the author. In the world of online marketing as with any other endeavour time equals money, the fact that you spent several hours writing and building content for your site has a cost.

When people talk about organic SEO what they mean is that a website will rank naturally and with time and the addition of fresh unique content on a regular basis will gradually rise in the rankings for a particular keyword or phrase. Over time as a website gains more and more visitors in search of its unique content Webmasters will link to the site, these links are called back links and they are used by the Google algorithm to gauge the website’s authority.

Search engine optimization on the other hand is a manipulation of the system. Whilst Google will tell you what they are looking for in a website or more importantly what their  searchers are looking for, they do not fully support artificial SEO and they have been known to take action against sites whose methods and footprints are obvious.

That being said everyone is doing it and if you’re not doing it you are getting left behind.  So while the reality of organic SEO it is not exactly what it should be,  nevertheless we still need to carry out certain procedures to ensure that our sites rank and that we don’t get left behind in our endeavours to reach the number one spot.

Themes can be downloaded to your computer desktop and then uploaded to your website using FTP  (file transfer protocol) and placed into the correct directory on your server.

In order to do this you will need FTP software which will transfer your downloaded files to your server. Many of these programs are available free online, the one that I use is called Filezilla.

When using filezilla   to upload your files for the first time,  you will need access to the welcome E-mail which was sent to you by your hosting company. This e-mail contains your FTP username and password which you will have to enter into your file manager.This information only needs to be entered once, after the first time you will be to connect your server using the quick connect button.

When adding a theme using this method, on the remote side of your FTP program click on  >public_ HTML   >your domain   >wp-content  >themes ….then drag-and-drop your new theme into the themes directory.

When you return to your WordPress blog administration area,  by entering  “www.yourdomain.com/wp-admin”  in the browser window and entering your username and password. Look at your dashboard on the left-hand side, click on appearance,  click on themes and your new theme should be on the page in front of you.

One tip that I can give you in order to keep things organized on your computer  is to have a file on your desktop which is called WordPress . Inside this WordPress file you need to keep one file called WordPress themes and another one called WordPress plug-ins. Then as you set up new websites you can upload your favourite themes and plug-ins to your server from one location.

Please be patient when you learning how to use an FTP program for the first time. It can be a little tricky finding your way around. If you upload something and it doesn’t work go back to your FTP program and remove the file that you uploaded and try to see what you did wrong. Usually you will find that you transfer the file an incorrect directory.

Using an FTP program will become an important part of your daily routine.

This video will show you how to change a wordpress theme.

Once you get used to the process it doesn’t take more than a few minutes to go through and complete the whole installation.  Each time you go through the procedure it gets easier and quicker, you will become an expert in a very short space of time.

Very soon it will only take you five minutes to install wordpress from beginning to end.

Once you have your wordpress  theme installed it is time to change the standard default theme to another theme more in keeping with the particular industry you’re involved or your niche or micro-niche.

There are literally thousands and thousands of free  WP themes available with a simple search on Google or any search engine. Many of these themes will be perfect to your particular needs, sometimes you just need to spend some time looking through all the pages until you find a theme that suit your needs.

In this method you will select a new inside your wordpress admin area from the “add new” tab, you use the custom selector or choose from popular/recent/updated themes that wordpress suggests.

Pick one that suits your needs.

If you are happy with this particular theme, click on the activate button to install the theme on your domain. You can then click on the visit site button to see what your new website looks like.

The appearance of a new theme will be pretty basic at this time, but in the next video we will be going over some important steps to make your website look much better both for human visitors and SEO spiders from Google and other search engines.

One of the best FTP programs is one that I use myself -  filezilla.

This program is free to download and there are numerous tutorials on Google and YouTube so that you can learn how to use it correctly.

In a future video we will go over how to upload a theme and a plug-in using filezilla.

With all of the different  themes available today all over the internet you can make your web site look any way you want.

In this particular instance I’m not talking about a hosted blog on WordPress.com but your own website on your own domain.

There are a couple of things you will need to do before you can carry out
this procedure:

• Keyword research
• Decide on a domain name
• Get your own hosting account
• Point your name servers

It’s important to decide on a market, or niche prior to buying your domain name. If your site is related to one particular niche, carry out keyword research so that your domain name contains the keyword or some of the important words in the key word phrase.

For example if your site is about dog training, which is a fairly broad term, then try to get a domain name that contains the phrase for instance “dogtraining.com.”

Next set yourself up with a hosting account, there are many good ones to choose from. If you search on Google you can usually find discount coupons for these services and you should be able to secure yourself  hosting at a reasonable rate.

Your hosting company will send you a welcome e-mail which will list your domain servers (DNS), take this information back to your registrar, log into your account and change your name servers to point them to your new hosting company.

This may sound complicated but you are just telling your registrar where your domain name is hosted.

You will also need the username and password from your welcome e-mail to enable you to log into your c panel. Please keep this information is safe but easy to find.

To log into your c panel type  www.yourdomain.com/cpanel  into your browser window.

Learning how to check your  on page  SEO can save you a great deal of time when trying to rank in Google. Sometimes it’s a good idea to take a good look at the source code of your websites and pages to make sure that your page is correctly optimized for your selected keyword phrases.
